U Thant Kyaw, Chairman of the Myanmar Institute of Strategic and International Studies (MISIS), took part in the 5th ASEAN-India Youth Summit held in Goa, India, from 27 to 31 August 2025 under the theme “Connecting the Youth: Shaping Our Future.” Speaking at the plenary session “India & ASEAN: Pillars of a Multipolar World,” he underlined that the ASEAN–India partnership is built on shared ideas, cultures, and friendships that link nearly two billion people. He also noted Myanmar’s unique role as the only ASEAN country sharing a land border with India and expressed appreciation for India’s timely humanitarian support to Myanmar after the March 2025 Mandalay earthquake under Operation Brahma.

In his remarks, U Thant Kyaw emphasized that youth are the foundation of a multipolar world and urged moving from programs for youth to partnerships with youth, making them equal stakeholders in regional cooperation. He encouraged young leaders to promote peace, inclusivity, and sustainability while building lasting friendships that strengthen ASEAN–India ties.

The Summit gathered seven youth delegates each from ASEAN Member States, India, and Timor-Leste, providing a dynamic platform for dialogue and collaboration. Over five days, participants joined policy labs, cultural exchanges, site visits, and networking activities designed to foster mutual understanding and innovation. As a member of the Organizing Committee of the Summit, the role of MISIS Chairman reflected Myanmar’s commitment to youth empowerment and to advancing ASEAN–India cooperation for a shared and resilient future.
